For an author to create a believeable world that we can immerse ourselves in for a few hours is magical. I just meant that some people seem to need to see the world through the eyes of others - perhaps that is what tv does to us. <br>
There are many, many critiques of the Da Vinci code. One that is reasonably fair us:<br>
http://www.apologeticsindex.org/d50aa.html<br>
<br>
Whether it is true or not, the fact that it aroused your curiousity seems to me in his favour.

In response to:Another Ordinary Friday

Again, I am afraid I am ignorant about contemporary Western fictions (I only recall I read some American popular fictions such as those of Sidney Shelton and John Grisham), but I will look for the books of Ian Mcewan. I can enjoy different types of fictions: I like classic works such as the Mayor of Casterbridge, Bleak House, Jane Eyre, One Hundred Years of Solitude, Less Confessions (this is a non-fiction though), and I also enjoy reading books such as Da Vinci Code and Harry Potter. Sometimes, it is not bad to look at things through others' eyes. Take my situation as an example-if I did not read Da Vinci Code, I would never be interested in exploring a little bit about Christain history and culture; I do not actaully believe all of what Dan Brown said in his book, but he did indeed inspire my curiosity to find out the truth behind the mystery. And in my view, an individual person's knowledge, experiences and resources (such as time and opportunties to get to know something new) are very limited, so it is sometimes a good thing to know some things interesting and new through others' eyes-I guess this is a part of the reason why people read books. Oh, I think this is a very good discussion with you. :)

In response to:Another Ordinary Friday

Isn't it fascinating that some people seem to need to see the world through the eyes of others - there are all sorts of travel guides to Paris now written for those who want to follow the Da Vinci trail. Harry Potter guides also seem to be big business. Mainstream literature seems to have divided since the days of Dickens into 'literary' and 'popular' fiction. This doesn't seem to be so in mystery fiction - writers like ian mcewan seem to be able to combine very fine writing with popularity. So you just need to find the right niche.

In response to:Another Ordinary Friday

Actually, I agree with you. Da Vinci Code is his best so far, and he is very clever in the way that he just inspired readers' curiosity on European Christian culture and history. When I visited Louvre, many tourists were just trying to look for the paitings which were mentioned in Da Vinci Code. The real attractions are in the culture itself. But I still admire Dan Brown in the sense that he is very skillful at arranging the plots-I think he is a master at this. Of course, I do not think he is among the great writers like---(let me think for a moment)Charles Dickons (I only read the classical ones, so do not have much idea about comtemparay Western great writers, and I guess Harry Potter cannot be counted as a great work, although it is very popular). Having said this, I would be very contented if I could write one like Da Vinci Code or Harry Potter. Actually, my content would be extremely huge if I could write one, and I would also be very rich,haha. :)

In response to:Another Ordinary Friday

Yes, there is always a 'new' without fail...a very positive feeling!<br>

I thought they were very ordinary. I don't think he would be that well known if it wasn't for the Da Vinci Code. That wasn't, in my opinion, all that well written but it tapped into some ideas that caught the imagination of many people.

In response to:A Bit Guilty Recently

Hello Sandy. It's nice to have you back again, even though you are maybe "just passing through". As Princess infers, we can't be blogging all the time, we all have real life to get on with. I feel very guilty at the moment because I'm not doing enough work and at the same time I'm not spending as much time with my lovers as I feel I should. But I console myself with the thought that a more harmonious life will soon be regained.

In response to:A Bit Guilty Recently

Hi Sandy,i agree it's strange that it can take so little to like someone and yet a lifetime to forget them sometimes. maybe we are meant to remeber stuff. <br>
Please never worry about age, ignore it, just go with your feeling...I do, and forget the fact that I am in my mid-thirties...age only matters on paper, not in our hearts.<br>
<br>
All the VERY best to you, always~~
